How it works
How Working With Us on an IRS Problem Works, From Sugar Land to Houston
Three stages: a free consultation, a plan built on your real numbers, and a resolution we carry through with the IRS for you.
Step 1: The free consultation
Share your situation on a call, in a virtual consultation, or through the form. We read your notices with you and explain your options in plain English, then outline the next steps. The consultation is confidential and there is no obligation.
Bring every IRS or state letter, your last filed return, a list of any years you did not file, and a rough idea of your monthly income and bills. The tax consultation page has the full checklist.
Step 2: A plan for your case
If you hire the firm, you sign Form 2848. That lets us speak to the IRS for you and pull your transcripts, so the plan is built on what the IRS actually has on file. Depending on what we find, the plan might be to:
- file the returns that are missing (unfiled tax returns),
- ask for penalty relief where you qualify,
- set up a payment plan, or prepare an Offer in Compromise,
- request a levy release, or respond to an audit.
Step 3: Resolution
We put the plan in place and keep talking to the tax authorities until each part is decided. You get told what was sent, what the IRS answered and what you need to do, such as making a plan payment on time.
What we will not promise
No one outside the IRS can promise a settlement amount, a penalty removal or a date a levy stops. The IRS decides those based on your filing history, income, expenses and assets, under rules it publishes. Our guide to choosing a tax resolution professional explains why a firm that guarantees a result before reading your file is a warning sign.
Tax Solution Pro Advisor is led by Thuy Nguyen, a Texas CPA (see her credentials). For background on the hardship option, read Currently Not Collectible status explained.
Frequently asked questions
Do I have to stop talking to the IRS once I hire someone?
Once you sign Form 2848, your representative can speak to the IRS for you. You should still forward every new letter you receive so nothing is missed.
How long will my case take?
It depends on the option and on the IRS. Filing missing returns and setting up a plan can move quickly; an Offer in Compromise or an appeal can take months. We will tell you what to expect for your case at the start.
What does it cost?
The first consultation is free. If you decide to hire the firm, ask for the scope of work and the fee in writing before anything starts. That is good practice with any tax professional.
What if I cannot afford professional help?
You may qualify for free help from a Low Income Taxpayer Clinic or the Taxpayer Advocate Service. We would rather you get help there than nowhere.
